Beginning Band
The Beginning Band Program for the nine Watterson Area Feeder Schools starts in 5th grade. This presents 5th grade students with the opportunity to start a Woodwind, Brass, or Percussion instrument. The students meet during the day during music class or study periods at some schools, or on a rotating basis out of other classes at other schools. The students have one lesson period during the week where they focus on their specific instrument group, and one "full band" period where all of the instrument groups, and/or grade levels get together. Beginning band usually starts around the end of September (usually during the 4th week of school). The students rent their instruments from one of the area music stores. There are two concerts during the year: one at Christmas time, and one in the spring. There is a fee for participation in band that is never more than $250 for the year.
